Write a Cover Letter

Elements:
·      Goal: To demonstrate to the reader how they should view your résumé (note: not a summary of your résumé).
·      Topic Sentences: Introduce content before going into specifics.
·      Target Position: Use language from the job posting to make your cover letter relevant to the specific position.
·      Contact Information: Include an email and/or phone number to allow the reader to contact you easily.
·      Interview: Make it clear that the goal of your application package is to get an interview.
Sections:
·      Heading: Date, Recipient Address, Greeting
o   Greeting: Use a common or semicolon following your greeting.
·      Opening: State what position you are applying for, how you found out about it, and why it attracts you.
·      Summary Paragraph: State why you would be a good fit for the position, highlighting and elaborating on specific examples from your résumé.
·      Closing: Summarize why you would be a good fit for the position, provide contact information, and push for an interview.
·      Complimentary Closing: Use this preceding your signature.
·      Return Address
·      Enclosure: Could include a résumé, curriculum vitae, application form, letters of reference, etc.
